Jerry Taylor started in the flooring business in 1978 as a carpet installer. Over the years branched off from just carpet to all types of floor covering installations learning all facets of the industry. In 1988 Jerry's son Ken Taylor joined and they added property maintenance and construction from 1988 to 2003 as Jerry Taylor Enterprises (J.T.E.). We built additions, remodeled whole houses and a whole lot of handyman jobs.

In 1995, due to a heart condition Jerry had to stop doing the physical labor and they started the retail business now known as JTE Floor Covering. The retail business grew every year and we went from a tiny business run out of a garage to a small location on Monmouth Street in Independence. JTE Floor Covering moved to the current location on Main Street in 2000 where we became a Mohawk Color Center dealer and this expanded our product line and aligned us with Mohawk, the largest manufacturer of floor covering in the world. This was the first time we had a location large enough to warehouse all of our In-Stock products and have a large showroom with the largest selection of flooring products in Polk county.

Ken took over as President of the company in 2003 when Jerry's health condition made it too hard to oversee the business. That is when the decision was made to discontinued the construction and maintenance side of business and focus on floor covering and related products and service.
